Review: Fully Nourished

Fully Nourished book cover on blue background

I'm quite interested in books on health from a Christian perspective, so when I saw Fully Nourished by Brandice Lardner available on NetGalley, I requested it right away.

Some of the books I've recently read on this topic have been written by men, so I was even more keen to go through content directed at Christian women. I love that this book is a balance between theory and practice, spiritual and physical health, and truth and grace.

Many thanks to Revell Books and NetGalley for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Book Synopsis

Ditch Diet Shame and Embrace a Christ-Centered View of Food and Yourself

  • For anyone tired of obsessing over food, weight, and appearance
  • Discover the freedom you long for by silencing that critical voice in your head
  • From a trusted nutrition coach and personal trainer

Even though as Christian women we know that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, many of us have been in a war with our own bodies for years. We tediously track calories, eliminate food groups, jump on the latest exercise trend, and wonder if all this business about balancing hormones is real or just someone trying to sell us something.

Through all the conflicting advice, weight lost and regained, and time spent berating ourselves for failing, we never get to the heart of the matter: why we started overeating in the first place or why our sense of worth has become entangled in what we eat and how we look. We focus on improving the outside, hoping it will make us feel better inside. But true, lasting, life-altering freedom is found by changing from the inside out.

Fully Nourished invites you to step off the exhausting treadmill of dieting and into the freedom Jesus offers. Certified nutrition coach and personal trainer Brandice Lardner gently guides you through sustainable practices grounded in biblical truth, sound nutrition, and habit-building science. You'll discover how to nourish your body without shame, renew your mind with grace, and build habits that support your health, your peace, and your calling.

This is not about getting it "perfect." It's about finally being free.

Book Thoughts

This is a book that serves as an excellent troubleshooting manual, targeting how we eat rather than only focusing on what we eat. As a result, it's a guide that can be turned to again and again as it poses useful questions for our journey in relating to food in a healthy manner. Beyond the physical practices of eating, I appreciate that Fully Nourished incorporates information on our mindsets, mindfulness, and more importantly, our spiritual health. Using deliberate repetition to help drill in sustainable habits, readers are encouraged to step back and notice the state of our bodies, name our emotions and thoughts, and renew our minds when approaching meals.

Intentionally inviting God into our weight struggles, the author provides biblical teachings on why God cares for us and our bodies and how we can surrender control over to Him. While the pursuit of perfectionism can leave us empty and frustrated, there is hope in the form of being faithful with small steps as we submit our health to Jesus. If you're looking for a book that encourages readers to stop and reflect on why we do what we do when it comes to feeling nourished, Brandice Lardner offers a grace-filled approach to healthy living that reflects God's love for us as His creation.

Review: For Us

If you've been following April Barcalow for some time, you'll be just as excited to know that she has recently released a marriage devotional. Newsletter subscribers can receive a free copy, and you can learn more about the background of For Us: Seeking God's Heart for Marriage on her website. Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. Book Synopsis All throughout Scripture, when God wants us to understand the close, intimate relationship He longs to have with us, He uses the imagery of marriage. That’s no coincidence. Marriage is an echo of the lasting love we share with Him, a framework to help us understand, and a gift. But good marriage, the kind that reflects Him, doesn’t happen without intention. Without building each piece on the solid foundation of Christ. Without choosing one another, even when it’s hard. This 30-day devotional weaves together Scripture, personal experience, and story threads to seek God’s ...
