The Morning Star Rises book cover on blue background

Happy release day! After reading The End Begins and The Darkness Deepens, the first two books in the The Day Draws Near series (previously The Seven Trilogy) by Sara Davison, I have been eagerly awaiting The Morning Star Rises to find out what happens to Jesse and Meryn in this thrilling conclusion.

Many thanks to Mountain Brook Ink for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Book Synopsis

In the midst of all the fear and confusion, only one thing is clear…

This isn’t over yet.

Jesse Christensen is out of the army, but the real battle has just begun. Major Gallagher has taken over the city. His oppression of believers—especially Jesse—intensifies in response to a so-called radical Christian group that claims responsibility for more terrorist attacks. But is Gallagher acting in a professional capacity, or is he carrying out a personal vendetta?

Meryn O’Reilly faces a dark and uncertain future after shocking revelations devastate her life. She is determined to follow God’s call, but her plans could cost her everything. She and Jesse struggle to surrender everything to a God who is always in control, even when circumstances suggest otherwise.

Book Thoughts

What a stunning end to The Day Draws Near series. In having the first book focus on Meryn O'Reilly and the second book focus on Jesse Christensen, I love that this last book places the spotlight on Meryn and Jesse's incredibly brave family members and friends. If you've been along for the ride with these books set in 2054, you'll know that evil is intensifying and that Christians become a greater target than ever for the government and military in this futuristic yet realistic story. I'm left in awe at how these books read as if they could be set today, making it even more imperative that I know where I stand in my faith. The risks that the characters have to take to remain obedient and faithful to God on a daily basis act as a clarion call to my own heart lest I waver or falter in my allegiance to Jesus Christ.

With stunning twists and imminent dangers abounding in The Morning Star Rises, Sara Davison crafts scenes that evoke intense emotions and prayerful responses. There is absolutely no doubt that this is Christian suspense that is meant to draw readers closer to God as a result of devouring the action-packed sequences. As this is not a standalone book, it's best to read the trilogy in full to gain the greatest impact. This series will make you cherish your Bible even more while experiencing a post-Christian nation that believers would do well to prepare for as society shifts at a rapid pace. If you want a book that will make you think about and personally count the cost of following Jesus, you don't have to look any further as Jesse and Meryn's story will challenge and inspire you to live out your faith.

Review: Now and Not Yet

This is a title that I've been excited about ever since I saw others sharing about it, so I'm thrilled that I was able to read  Now and Not Yet  by  Ruth Chou Simons  before it was released yesterday. Many thanks to  Nelson Books  and  NetGalley  for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Why does right now seem so far from where we really long to be? Bestselling author Ruth Chou Simons reminds us that it's okay to not like the right now we've been given, but we do...
