Review: In This Moment - Timeless #2

In This Moment book cover on blue background

It's a strange conundrum where I know that anything in the Timeless series by Gabrielle Meyer will blow my socks off, yet I know the feeling of being bereft as soon as a title is finished. That may be a tiny reason why I've drawn this series out as much as I can because each book has sent me for a (good) wallop! In This Moment carries on with the same feelings I had after When the Day Comes, so now I know I'm in for another transformational reading experience as the series progresses.

Book Synopsis

Maggie inherited a gift from her time-crossing parents that allows her to live three separate lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night, she goes to sleep in one time period and wakes up in another. Until she turns twenty-one, when she will have to forfeit two of those lives--and everyone she knows in them--forever.

In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of a senator at the outbreak of the Civil War, navigating a capital full of Southern spies and wounded soldiers. In 1941, she is a navy nurse, grappling with her knowledge of the future when she joins a hospital ship going to Pearl Harbor. And in 2001, she's a brilliant young medical student, fulfilling her dream of becoming a surgeon.

While Maggie has sworn off romance until she makes her final choice, an intriguing man tugs at her heart in each era, only complicating the impossible decision she must make, which looms ever closer. With so much on the line, how can Maggie choose just one life to keep and the rest to lose?

Book Thoughts

I feel like with the Timeless series by Gabrielle Meyer, everything that needs to be said has already been said by other reviewers. Is this one of the most unique series out there in Christian fiction? Yes. Do the twists and turns keep readers engaged until the very last page? Most definitely. More importantly, does Christian faith in the characters' lives permeate the story so much that there is no way for God to be absent? Of course. All of this has made it such a blessing and joy to continue reading this series.

In This Moment is not an exception as it provides even more variety through three different timelines. It is wildly creative, heartbreakingly poignant as three critical eras in American history are explored, and it is deeply touching as it is easy to love the characters in each time period. Though I tried to savour this book as much as I could, in the end, I found that I just could not put it down. As things started becoming more clear, I loved how everything came together to form a magnificent picture of Maggie's lives. Readers who are already familiar with this series will enjoy seeing America in a new light while glimpsing the powerful truths behind God's grace and our free will in a more profound way.

Review: Wild Light - The Light Rising #2

Did I read this book twice within two weeks? Yes; it was that good!  The Light Rising Series  is likely one of my favourite Christian series this year and I'm thrilled that the second book is now available. Wild Light by Ivy Emerson is everything I hoped for, plus so much more in a book that is clearly Christian while taking readers on a wild adventure. Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Book Synopsis I’ve built my life on distance. Do the job. Keep it simple. Walk away. It’s safer that way— until she becomes the one person I can’t stay away from. I’ve built my life on independence. Protect the animals. Let the work be enough. Just me and God— until he becomes the one person I don’t want to lose. The sanctuary was supposed to be safe. It isn’t. Someone is hiding something… and the closer we get to the truth, the more dangerous it becomes. But even in the wild, light finds a way in. Wild...

Reader Identity

The more I share my book thoughts and reviews, the more amazed I am at how many readers there are out there and just how many people enjoy talking about the books they're reading. Quite frankly, I'm blown away by the notion that there are people actively wanting to adopt the persona of being a reader, whereas I remember growing up, it was stigmatized as either boring or 'nerdy'. I used to cringe when I was in a position where I was asked to share about my hobbies as reading seemed to generate a sort of response where others would murmur about how they didn't know that people did that for fun. To be fair, this might have been some of the social circles or settings I've been a part of over the years, but I think reading has generally become more mainstream now. Thankfully, I can let people know that I spend almost all of my free time reading (amongst other things), and others don't seem to bat an eye anymore. While I have seen some content that discourages peo...
