Book Thoughts

One of the things that I've come to associate with Meghann Whistler's books is how brilliantly she writes medical scenes. They are informative yet also enhance and advance the plot. In this case, I learnt about some new conditions and gained deeper empathy for those suffering from them. I love reading her books because there is so much heart behind them, along with some incredible faith-filled scenes. Brett and Valerie shine as characters and Valerie's brothers steal the show with their adorable lines and antics. Not only is this Cape Cod story a delight to read, there are some powerful truths around the effects of bullying, insecurity, and family trauma, and how God can bring healing and restoration through His power.

Alongside the swoony romance, I appreciated the detailed information around the characters' careers and the decisions they had to make. This information makes Brett and Valerie more well-rounded, and it allows readers to feel like they're connecting with colleagues and friends. I am so grateful for all of the prayers interspersed throughout the book and how they capture the essence of what the characters need most from God. If you're looking for a touching story filled with ups and downs, but also hope and generosity, Their Unlikely Protector is an excellent choice for readers who want to see how God can take the broken pieces of our hearts and turn them into something whole.

Christian vs. Clean

This is a theme that isn't new if you've been following some of my musings over the past several months. You could even say this is the natural progression of taking this line of thinking to its conclusion. In evaluating which books to read, the refrain of Christian vs. clean has become so ingrained in my thinking that it's practically been on repeat for me. To be honest, I've never really held a view on Christian vs. clean books until the end of last year. Most of my reading since becoming a Christian has been all over the place, where I believed that acquiring knowledge, almost any knowledge, was worth it for the sake of becoming more learned. Being a voracious reader meant that I would consume most anything—especially if it was free as I didn't have a lot of books growing up (my parents preferred to take me to the library on a weekly basis as I would have cost them too much in books ๐Ÿ˜‚). However, God has definitely been impressing upon me the conviction that I ca...

Over time, I've been on the hunt for Christian book review programs that readers can join. As a result, I've been able to compile the following list which may be of interest if you are seeking review copies of Christian books. If further information is available for any of the publishers below (or any missing publishers), please let me know as I am happy to update this list—thank you! Theological Backgrounds

Have you ever wondered about the theological background of authors? I am sometimes curious, especially if there are things that pop up in their books that make me pay attention (either positively or negatively). What I've found is that it's not always easy to find out. Some authors will openly share what church or denomination they belong to, whereas others don't seem to mention it—which for privacy concerns, I completely understand. In terms of how important this information may be for readers, or not at all for some, it does make me think about the role that this could play when deciding which books to read and buy. On the one hand, I think not specifically knowing which theological stream an author comes from but still being aware that they fall within the broader evangelical umbrella is fine with me. There's so much to learn as believers and I wouldn't want to be limited to only simply what I know. On the other hand, not knowing much beyond "Christian"...
