Review: The One She Loves - A Healing Kind of Love #4

The One She Loves book cover on blue background

It's a little sad to bid farewell to the A Healing Kind of Love series by Ella Marie, but I'm thankful that a bonus book was added for fans wanting to see more of Enzo's daughter. Gianna definitely steals the show and she's a pure delight in The One She Loves, all grown up and pursuing graduate education.

Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Book Synopsis

As the youngest of five successful siblings, Hollywood was Nico’s chance to finally prove he could make a name for himself. But when everything he’s worked for comes crashing down, he’s forced to return to Bedford—the town where he left behind a colossal mess.

Seeing Gianna on his very first day home brings every regret rushing back.

Once his first love, she’s now a painful reminder that while failure kept landing on his plate, success kept filling hers. With the two of them now working side by side at his dad’s cafĆ©, burying the past—and everything it awakens—feels like his only way forward as he searches for a way back to California.

Gianna knows the past is best left alone, but her heart has never been willing to leave Nico there.

Working beside him makes it impossible to ignore that he’s become the kind of man she’s always prayed for, even though he seems adamant about leaving their history untouched. She knows she should do the same, especially when a future with him could cost her the one relationship she treasures most. The trouble is, letting go has never been easy when it comes to the only man she’s ever loved.

Can a love story scarred by the mistakes of their youth still find its happily ever after, or has the past already written the final chapter?

Book Thoughts

For a book that came about as a surprise, I love that it fully completes Ella Marie's A Healing Kind of Love series. Reading The Class She Skips beforehand will provide a richer experience as it explains Gianna's origin story and that of her parents! Getting to see the next generation of love in this world set in Bedford, it's easy to root for Gianna when she encounters Nico again, four years after a terrible decision has them parting ways. I’m amazed at everything that is packed into this book and for anyone who has read the series, there are Easter eggs galore to be discovered.

This is also one of the few books I’ve read where the relationship between the male main character and the female main character's father is of even greater interest to me. These scenes are so superbly written that it has set a wonderful standard for me in terms of communication, respect, and obedience, so for that alone, I have to commend the author. Faith themes are deeply embedded in this story and it makes Gianna and Nico’s reunion even more meaningful. If you want a series that lives up to being called Christian fiction—representing characters who are flawed but who desire to fully submit to Jesus—you can't go wrong with this sweet conclusion that celebrates books and the joy of a found community, including chosen cousins and more.

Book Quotes

Now I’m deeply humbled that God, in His kindness, showed me what prayer truly is. It’s the privilege of coming before the Creator of the universe exactly as I am because of Jesus’ sacrifice. I don’t have to search for perfect words anymore. Half the time my prayers are clumsy and unfinished, but He already knows my heart before I speak. And every time I remember Jesus’ promise in John 6:37—that whoever comes to Him He will never cast out—I wonder why I ever settled for anything less.

Review: Anytime - Mayberry University #3

This is it! Anytime by Kristina Welch  is the third book in the Mayberry University series where we get to encounter students with a heart for Jesus and a passion to serve Him wherever He calls them. In this opposites attract new adult romance, we meet Janie and Mav who are like day and night in their personalities and temperaments in every way, except in their love for God. Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Content to be aware of:  While Anytime could be read as a standalone, this is a heads up that there is a lot of terminology that is dependent on the previous books, especially around the university itself with all of the lingo and the nicknames for the characters. A man's shirt is also removed and there is talk of skimpy clothing. Book Synopsis Rigid productivity queen,  meet prank-loving chaos monger. Can he wait for God to lead the way? Can she stop trying to map it all out...

Review: The Marriage Goal - The Reluctant Romantics #4

As one of my favourite series that I've read over the past year,  The Reluctant Romantics series  keeps knocking it out of the park with each new release. The Marriage Goal by Morgan Taylor Giesbrecht is a book you'll want to enjoy with Christmas around the corner, filled with plenty of literature-infused banter and heartwarming moments along the way. Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Book Synopsis To love and to cherish, until death or visa fraud do us part. Juliet: Taking a job as the Caldwell Chargers' new legal counsel was a calculated risk of pros and cons. Pro: it’s a prestigious position at my age. Con: I’m stuck working with my older brother’s best friend—the man who broke my teenage heart eight years ago. I’ve spent years avoiding Myles Delavan, and now he’s everywhere. The flirty goalie with gorgeous hair is a tempting distraction I can’t afford. Right up there with my med...

Review: The Echoes of Eden

Readers looking for a book that asks questions about the origin of the world and its intended culmination will find much to ruminate on in The Echoes of Eden by R.J. Stevens . It is a philosophical and theological treat to think through the Christian worldview in this ordered and sequential analysis that moves from Genesis to Revelation.  Ideal for personal study or group study, there is a devotional component to this book that allows readers to dive into the material more deeply. Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Please note that the author of this work has the same name as another author of romance novels, but are two different people. Book Synopsis "Before you were born, the Echoes of Eden were calling your name." In an age where truth feels negotiable, goodness subjective, and purpose self-constructed, we still sense a quiet longing for a world that was once whole and coherent. The...
