Review: Perfectly Matched - Hopeful Hearts #3

Perfectly Matched book cover on blue background

This is a heavy book and it delves into a national policy that is difficult to learn about; however, it is well worth reading to find out what happens to a sweet little girl whose future is up in the air.

Perfectly Matched by Liana George is the final book in the Hopeful Hearts series with a portion of the earnings from these books funding the Hopeful Hearts orphanage that seeks to help children with heart conditions, which is where the setting of the book is based off.

It's not a standalone book, so I would recommend reading the previous two books in this series, Perfectly Arranged and Perfectly Placed, as it's worth seeing how everything wraps up.

Content to be aware of: atrocities committed under government policies, forced sterilization

Book Synopsis

Nicki Mayfield is getting married! Or is she?

Three days after deciding to marry so she can adopt the young Chinese girl who has captured her heart, Nicki Mayfield heads to Texas to become Mrs. Ben Carrington. However, as the unlikely pair prepares to say, “I do,” a shocking revelation threatens their plans to become a family.

While searching for the answers to the mystery holding her future hostage, Nicki must also keep Ms. O’Connor’s legacy alive at New Hope Orphanage – whose future is at serious risk.

As she and Ben work toward building their unconventional family, they discover that sacrificial parenting requires putting the child first in ways that bring indescribable joy and unexpected heartbreak to everyone involved.

In the end, will Nicki find her happily ever after, or will circumstances stop her from being perfectly matched in work, life, and love?

Book Thoughts

If you've been wondering whether there is romance in Nicki Mayfield's future, you won't want to miss the conclusion to the Hopeful Hearts series. This modern-day marriage of convenience story is memorable and an incredible testament to how God can place the lonely in families. At the same time, this book is a reminder that families shouldn't be taken for granted, delving into heartbreaking details on how a government policy can tear people apart just as easily. Combining a mystery with a situation that seems impossible, Liana George wrings out every emotion possible from readers as Nicki proceeds with her international adoption. Not only does Nicki require prayer along the way, but she also needs wisdom in knowing how to press on when all hope seems lost.

I appreciate that in this story, we get to see Nicki and Ben in a new way as they work through family issues while attempting to form a new one. It’s touching to see their relationship grow along with their commitment to serving one another. God is central to their actions, which is evident when there are moments where they truly need to surrender all of their dreams to Him. The cultural aspects of this book are intriguing to learn about and excruciating to live through on the pages, yet even in the darkness, God shines through His believers. Readers who are looking for a cross-cultural adventure that touches on international adoptions will fall in love with this story as it shines a light on the need for God’s perfect justice and His merciful love in this world.

Diverse Stories

One of the things I've been challenging myself to do this year has been to read more Christian books written by authors from other countries. I love that the body of Christ spans the four corners of the world and that we get to benefit from hearing so many different perspectives. I've also appreciated getting to know some amazing authors and readers online from other nations and continents as it's enriched my understanding of how Christians experience life. It helps me realize that the views I take for granted may only be limited to where I am situated, geographically and culturally. I haven't read all of the authors below yet, but here are a few Christian fiction authors who write from outside of North America if you're interested in reading more: Africa Ann J. David Ivy Emerson Enewerome Anna Jensen Tope Omotosho Vida Li Sik Asia Joanna Alonzo Joy Crain Australasia Narelle Atkins Liz Chapman Amanda Deed Jenny Glazebrook Iola Goulton Jessica Kate Bessie Le Couteur ...

Review: Uncluttered Faith

Whenever I see a new Joshua Becker book, I read it. Make that a Christian book and I'll read it even sooner. Uncluttered Faith is perhaps the clearest and most unapologetically Christian book I've seen on the topic on minimalism and it's where the author's pastoral heart shines through the most. This book releases in February 2026 and is one that connects an intentional life to Gospel teachings in a way that is inspiring and attainable for believers. Many thanks to WaterBrook & Multnomah and  NetGalley  for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Content to be aware of : mentions of contemplative spirituality authors, brief mention of monks and nuns Book Synopsis A transformative guide to experiencing the fullness of God's promises through the power of minimalism—from the bestselling author of The More of Less and The Minimalist Home. Consumerism competes for our attention daily—from social media influenc...
