This is a book where the name Miles Morgan will have you wishing he was a real person after getting to meet his character. The Final Word is the next book in the Bite of Betrayal series by Laura Thomas, set in the English village of Bramble Downs. Combining the opera, a bakery, a book based on a Cinderella retelling, and sisters who have each others' backs through thick and thin, there is much to explore in Miles and Sophie's story!

Book Synopsis
When aspiring author Sophie Brooks chooses to trade a vibrant Paris life for the tranquility of a quaint English village, she imagines her final days in the City of Lights will be magical. Sophie doesn’t anticipate a chilling encounter with an old flame—nor does she plan to find a new love on her very last night.
Miles Morgan’s life has been defined as a successful opera singer—until now. His chance encounter with Sophie in Paris ignites renewed hope... if he can figure out his next chapter and if she can accept what his future may hold.
In the heart of the English countryside, Sophie and Miles’ fairy tale romance turns into a noxious nightmare as the darkness of Sophie’s past—and her volatile ex—catch up with her. Both Sophie and Miles must surrender everything to the One they thought had betrayed them as they lean into love and fight for their lives.

Book Thoughts
What a wonderful sequel to Captured in Frame, where we get to know Georgia’s younger sister, Sophie Brooks, who has been living in France and working at a bakery while aspiring to be an author. Starting off with a bang, Sophie ends up being pursued from France to England as she settles down with her sisters. I love that this series focuses on such gifted women who care for one another amidst tragedy and trials. Their sisterly bond makes the books stand out, along with vibrant descriptions of the idyllic scenery. In this case, readers get to experience both French and English culture while following the story of a Canadian female character and an American male character, which covers quite a lot of international ground! This is a heavier book where domestic abuse is brought to the forefront, with the author handling it in a respectful way without minimizing any of the fear or dangers presented to the characters. It's also a book where Sophie and Miles exhibit maturity by keeping each other informed as they seek to elude some frightening threats, minimizing potential misunderstandings.
I appreciate the vulnerability that Sophie exhibits in her hesitation about God and church based on her past experiences, with Miles quietly praying and rooting for her as she reestablishes her understanding of faith. Miles' kind and faithful gestures as a result of his devotion to God are sure to win anyone over. It's easy to fall in love with this book based on how the characters fiercely protect each other through a sacrificial love that reflects John 15:13, where "greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." Additionally, if the mouthwatering descriptions of French pastries don't already grab your attention, then the action-packed romantic suspense will be sure to keep you glued to the pages. Readers looking for an enduring love that hopes for the best and trusts during the worst will find that God has the final word in this redemptive story.
