Book Synopsis

She’s the only one who can melt this hockey player’s heart …

Bekah Kendall has always been under the protective care of her older brothers, but now she's finally living life on her own terms. She has a new degree, her own place, and a coveted spot on the sports medicine staff for a top hockey team. This job is everything she’s hoped for, except for the excessive attention she gets from the players. But there’s no way she can quit, not when she needs to prove to her family that she can make it on her own.

Watching out for his sister's best friend comes naturally for Sebastian Watts, so he does everything possible to help Bekah get a job with the Gilroy Gladiators. However, when he realizes his teammates have their eyes set on her, he feels responsible and comes up with a plan to keep her safe from their unwanted advances. As long as the guys believe she’s his girlfriend, they’ll keep their distance. But the longer he and Bekah play pretend, the harder it is to guard his own heart around her.

With all the time spent on the road together for away games, Bekah and Sebastian are forced to face their growing feelings for each other. But will their love withstand the interference of others and a secret from the past?

Book Thoughts

What a delightful conclusion to the Kendall Family series! I loved getting to know Bekah beyond the protective roles that her twin brothers, Devin and Jace, hold in their family. Seeing her tenacious spunk in making a way for herself is a fun contrast compared to her siblings. The cameos from previous books make this a trilogy that's not to miss, especially in seeing the family dynamics at play. This heartwarming read allows us to see how God can work past difficulties in relationships by bringing people together in His timing and way.

It is also such a treat to glimpse the softer side of Bash when he comes across as a gruff hockey player. Watching him grow and melt a little was just as satisfying as seeing how he was able to take care of Bekah. Liwen Y. Ho writes friendships and romances in such a believable way that it's easy to imagine befriending the characters she introduces us to on the page. Ending one of her books is a little bittersweet after getting to spend quality time with such great people. If you're looking for a Christian hockey romance that shows us why we need an assist at times, Assisting the Athlete will surely help in that regard!

Review: Shadow Light - Light Rising #1

This is the book that I was eager to reread as soon as I received the ARC. Shadow Light by Ivy Emerson is worth dropping everything for in order to meet Declan Cole and Tessa Lockwood in London, England.  Honestly, this is Christian fiction that you'll want to have waiting for you as I cannot say enough good things about it (I mean, look at that cover!). Make sure you catch it as it releases on February 1, 2026! Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Review: What We'll See in Heaven

I've been in a season in life where I've been reflecting on my mortality to a greater extent and attempting to prioritize activities that will have eternal value over the things of this world. As a result, books on death and heaven have especially drawn my attention. What We'll See in Heaven by John A. Beck is a title that warranted further investigation, acknowledging the air of mystery in that—despite not ever being able to fully comprehend death and the afterlife—we can still have complete trust in Jesus. It's a fascinating book offering the Gospel to those who are seeking new life on earth and into eternity. Many thanks to Baker Publishing Group for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
