Review: Find Me in the Story - Jonathon Island Season 2 #1

Find Me in the Story book cover on blue background

I still need to catch up with the first season of the Jonathon Island series, so getting to receive an Early Reviewer copy of the season season was an extra special gift. Find Me in the Story by Lisa Jordan is similar to the last book I won from this series where instead of there being a grumpy non-romance author, there is a grumpy bookstore owner 😄

Many thanks to Sunrise Publishing and LibraryThing for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Book Thoughts content is also posted on LibraryThing.

Book Synopsis

He stopped believing in happy endings. She never stopped writing them.

Eliza Quinn came back to Jonathon Island for one reason—her mother's illness. Not to stay. Not to get attached. Definitely not to fall for the brooding bookstore owner who hasn't smiled since his wife died.

But Oliver Sullivan's shop is failing. And Eliza's a marketing whiz who can't walk past a problem without fixing it.

So now they're saving a bookstore together. Late nights. Early morning arguments. Curtains she keeps throwing open. Quiet he keeps trying to protect.

And somewhere between the chaos and the stillness—something blooms.

Except trust is hard when you've both been broken. And one misunderstanding could close the book before the best chapter even begins.

Book Thoughts

Reading the first book in the second season of the Jonathon Island series makes me want to go back and catch all of the remaining titles, so anyone who is caught up will find this season opener to be a real treat. Oliver Sullivan, the brother of Dani from the first book of the first season, is managing a bookstore and gets roped into a booklovers’ festival right when he least wants to host it. Thankfully, Eliza Quinn is transitioning between jobs and ends up being the perfect answer to what Oliver needs. It's a literary reunion where famed authors from the first season make an appearance and those on the island come together to celebrate all things related book-related.

Beyond the immersive book-within-a-book experience, I appreciate that I could learn more about the Sullivan family as they seek to redeem what has happened to the island and their family after a devastating fire. Addressing some of the underlying allusions and accusations from other islanders, this storyline intrigued me as I could see the toll that the fire took on the children based on the actions of their parents and how it has translated into their personal lives as adults. It's encouraging to see how God restores faith and hope in the Sullivans as they work through their issues with Him. Readers who are familiar with or new to Jonathon Island will find themselves completely surrounded by authors, publicists, and all-around book fans in Find Me in the Story, all of whom come together to help a young couple move beyond grief to new beginnings.

Book Quotes

Grief’s a bit like being trapped in darkness, trying to feel your way out.” “It’s suffocating.” “Yep, sure is. But you can take a breath. And step toward the light. Love is worth the potential heartache.” Jonah exchanged his water bottle for the photo of Oliver holding Melody. “Could you imagine your life without Mel? Would your life be better if she’d never existed, or if you’d never fallen in love with her?” Oliver shook his head. “You’re a better man for loving her. God can use our pain for good in our lives. Mel will always be a part of your story.” Jonah placed a hand on Oliver’s shoulder. “Finishing the book doesn’t change that, but it will give you closure and allow you to start a new chapter.”

Review: The Good Gift of Weakness

I am so glad that the author reached out to me about  The Good Gift of Weakness: God's Strength Made Perfect in the Story of Redemption  as it was exactly the book that I needed to read in this season of my life. Many thanks to Harvest House Publishers and Eric Schumacher  for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Book Synopsis This overview of the theme of weakness in the Bible offers readers practical encouragement and hope as they learn to view their frailties as part of God’s plan and purpose for their lives. Our culture deifies strength―and sadly, the church does too. Who has the most successful ministry, the largest congregation, or the godliest family? Our misplaced faith in human strength is a false hope with no basis in Scripture. But a closer look throughout the Bible reveals the central role human frailty plays in the redemption story. From Genesis to Revelation, God’s power is made perfect when peo...
