Review: A Second Chance for a Dancer - Three Creek Ranch #3

A Second Chance for a Dancer book cover on blue background

This is a book that I've been eagerly anticipating based on how many crossover characters there are, making it more than worth the wait! It absolutely does not hurt that its publication date was also moved up, making it already available instead of having to wait until May 😀

A Second Chance for a Dancer by Carolyn Miller is the third book in the Three Creek Ranch series, which I have a soft spot for based on where it's set along with the heart behind the stories. Plus, look at that stunning cover designed by her daughter!

Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Book Synopsis

Poppy James is on the brink of attaining national fame, just like her friend and fellow dancer Bailey Donovan, when a blast from the past leads to a devastating injury. Now, instead of applause and acclaim, she’s tucked away in the confines of Three Creek Ranch, struggling to come to terms with a very different future. Who is she when she can no longer do what always gave her purpose?

Jake Guillemette is used to being overshadowed by his NHL-playing younger brother. He’s made peace with that—mostly—after an encounter several years ago showed him that he really shouldn’t try to act like someone he’s not, as that only leads to heartache and regrets. When a job opportunity leads him to start afresh somewhere new, he never thought he’d run into the person who made him second-guess everything, but who ultimately led him to become a better man.

Horrified, Poppy is desperate to keep their past a secret, and it takes some time to learn to trust this different version of the man she’s long loved to loathe.

Can Jake win her trust and prove he’s changed? And will Poppy learn to trust God with all her future?

Book Thoughts

I've said it before but each new Carolyn Miller offering has me declaring that it's my next new favourite book, especially with the Three Creek Ranch series. I love that we finally get to know Poppy James better after she's known for dishing out tough love to her sisters in the previous books. I also love that we get to meet a man who can sweep her off her feet after she has been through a difficult period of her life where she has been been engulfed in shame, bitterness, and even some hard-heartedness. As always, Carolyn walks readers through the Gospel in a way that comes across as natural but without pulling any punches.

It's no wonder that this book so successfully pulls away the physical trappings of unhealthy relationships to reveal what a spiritual and godly relationship can look like. Witnessing true repentance and submission to God in Jake's life makes him admirable and a testimony of how God can bring about restoration when we turn over the reins of our lives to Him. At the same time, we get to marvel at how God works in Poppy when her dreams, hopes, and livelihood are all at risk. If you're looking for heartfelt spiritual impact that lingers beyond the pages, A Second Chance for a Dancer is a powerful display of what happens when characters willingly yield to God and walk in obedience to Him.

Review: The CEO and the Christian Girl - For Love and Money #1

In light of mentioning Canada, it made sense for me to review a local author's book! I was so pleasantly surprised to discover that this author was from the same province as me, a rarity unless you're Janette Oke 😉 I had seen this book recommended to me on Kindle Unlimited after reading books from other independent authors, and I'm so glad that Nicole Lam popped up. I've since read as many of her books as I can! The For Love and Money series has characters whose stories are interconnected, but each book is compelling in its own way. They also have catchy titles, such as the first one in the series: The CEO and the Christian Girl . Book Synopsis Alexander Steele is cold-hearted. Hard-headed. Absolutely jaded. And he doesn't believe in love—or expect that any of the above will change with the marriage contract he signs. Katerina Devereaux is gentle. Selfless. Just as stubborn as her future husband. She doesn't know if she can change him—but she has faith that G...

Review: Now and Not Yet

This is a title that I've been excited about ever since I saw others sharing about it, so I'm thrilled that I was able to read  Now and Not Yet  by  Ruth Chou Simons  before it was released yesterday. Many thanks to  Nelson Books  and  NetGalley  for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Book Synopsis Bestselling author Ruth Chou Simons guides readers who are restless in their current circumstances on a journey of growth, purpose, and pressing in. We want to do so many things--good, godly things--but our situations don't allow us to step into them. Are we missing out on our own lives? Why does right now seem so far from where we really long to be? Bestselling author Ruth Chou Simons reminds us that it's okay to not like the right now we've been given, but we do...
