Review: The Devil Can Only Lie

The Devil Can Only Lie book cover on blue background

What a joy to read about how God continues to transform the lives of His children. The Devil Can Only Lie by Kylie Kirkegaard is a memoir that inspires and calls readers to a life of devotion and holiness. It truly points back to Jesus Christ, giving Him all the glory for how He can turn things around when it is most bleak in our lives.

Content to be aware of: sexual sin (non-descriptive); political statements around the pandemic that readers may be sensitive to; spiritual practices such as words of prophecy

Book Synopsis

The Devil Can Only Lie unpacks the biblical reality that it is our responsibility to choose either the truth of God's Word, or the lies of the enemy. What we feed ourselves in the natural will always impact the spiritual, and this book is an important key to understanding all that God has for us as His Children, and how to arm ourselves so we cannot be easily deceived.

The Devil Can Only Lie… and You Can Only Choose.

Every battle you face in life begins with a choice: will you believe the lies of the enemy, or the truth of God’s Word?

In this book, Kylie exposes the subtle deceptions that keep believers trapped in defeat — in identity, marriage, friendships, and every area of life. With bold truth and practical biblical insight, she shows how victory is never about circumstances, people, or excuses. It is always about choice.

The devil has no real power — only lies. What you choose to believe will determine whether you walk in bondage or freedom.

If you’re ready to:

  • Recognize and reject the enemy’s lies
  • See Scripture through the right lens
  • Break free from tradition, religion, and compromise
  • Live fully in the victory Christ purchased for you

…then this book is your key.

It’s time to stop living by excuses and start living by choice — God’s truth or the enemy’s lies. The decision is yours.

Book Thoughts

It is astounding to think of just how much God loves us and the depths He will go to to save us. In reading Kylie Kirkegaard's memoir, it is clear that God has had His hand on her life even in the midst of despair and sin. This memoir is a poignant reminder that He is always faithful, no matter what. Combining this raw testimony with what God has been teaching her from the Bible, readers will be blessed to see how a thirst for truth has led Kylie to redemption and freedom. It's the same thirst that she desires to impart to readers, pleading for them to turn to the source of life when plagued by the trials of this world.

Although some faith practices are not applicable to me, I appreciate that there is an exhortation to test everything against the Bible. If there is one continual thread throughout this book, it is that we can counter any lie from the enemy with Scripture, making it imperative that we immerse ourselves in the Bible. Readers who enjoy reading powerful Christian testimonies will find the work of God to be in abundance in The Devil Can Only Lie as His truth is uplifted and celebrated.

Christian vs. Clean

This is a theme that isn't new if you've been following some of my musings over the past several months. You could even say this is the natural progression of taking this line of thinking to its conclusion. In evaluating which books to read, the refrain of Christian vs. clean has become so ingrained in my thinking that it's practically been on repeat for me. To be honest, I've never really held a view on Christian vs. clean books until the end of last year. Most of my reading since becoming a Christian has been all over the place, where I believed that acquiring knowledge, almost any knowledge, was worth it for the sake of becoming more learned. Being a voracious reader meant that I would consume most anything—especially if it was free as I didn't have a lot of books growing up (my parents preferred to take me to the library on a weekly basis as I would have cost them too much in books 😂). However, God has definitely been impressing upon me the conviction that I ca...

Intentional ARCing

I realize ARCing isn't quite a real verb; however, I'm sure that fellow readers can understand the actions involved in experiencing ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) books, so please indulge my creative use of this word. I started reviewing ARCs 18 years ago, and though I certainly haven't been consistent, I'm grateful to have picked up a thing or two since that time, with many more lessons learnt since I've ramped up my volume in the last several years. Some of the biggest discoveries I've made in my reading journey have included the following: 1. Be discriminate, in the best ways. Over time, it's been easy for me to spot beloved publishers and even have an idea of an author's content and style, even if they're new to me by checking out the author's websites and platforms, along with review sites. This mostly applies to traditional publishing where it can be easier to source information, but the principles apply to indie books and authors as well. As ...
