Snow Globe Secrets book cover on blue background

The final book in the Flight to Freedom series, Snow Globe Secrets by Laura Thomas is a suspenseful Christmas mystery that combines the idyllic scenes of snow globes with a romantic story while facing unexplainable threats. Combining a British author with a small town set in British Columbia, Canada, what's not to love (including the very author of this book)?!

Book Synopsis

Shootings. Snow globes. Secrets.

When successful realtor, Alexis James, witnesses a shooting outside the bookstore in her hometown of Hollybrook, she soon realizes the perpetrator has unfinished business, and now she is caught in the crossfire.

Tom Harrington is a British, best-selling author who needs to honor a promise and find some answers in this Canadian winter wonderland—but trouble follows him across the ocean.

As Alexis is swept up in a festive whirlwind of danger and love, Tom attempts to break through her ice queen persona. But when chilling walls close in, they both have to decide: can they share their truth, rekindle their faith, and risk their lives if they have any hope for a Happily Ever After?

Book Thoughts

Getting to read Snow Globe Secrets right after The Christmas Cabin was a treat as I was able to find out Alexis James’ story after being introduced to her sister, Carla, in the previous Christmas book. Known as the Ice Queen, Alexis has quite the story when she has a literal run-in with a man escaping bullets. I enjoyed that beneath her frosty exterior, she had a passion for collecting snow globes, granting us a peek into her complicated life. I could relate to her feeling disconnected and desiring the picturesque scenes of her globes, which was an apt analogy to how Alexis felt before God. Her no-nonsense approach made it even more endearing to see how she responded to Tom, who exuded warmth and genuine interest.

In solving the mystery of why Alexis and Tom were being targeted, I appreciated all of the twists and turns that the author provided as I was keen to see how it all came together. As a result, fans of literature and mysteries will not be disappointed in piecing all of the clues together. Readers looking for a suspenseful Christmas story with a heart that thaws over time toward God and love will enjoy this splendid scene out of a snow globe.

Theological Backgrounds

Have you ever wondered about the theological background of authors? I am sometimes curious, especially if there are things that pop up in their books that make me pay attention (either positively or negatively). What I've found is that it's not always easy to find out. Some authors will openly share what church or denomination they belong to, whereas others don't seem to mention it—which for privacy concerns, I completely understand. In terms of how important this information may be for readers, or not at all for some, it does make me think about the role that this could play when deciding which books to read and buy. On the one hand, I think not specifically knowing which theological stream an author comes from but still being aware that they fall within the broader evangelical umbrella is fine with me. There's so much to learn as believers and I wouldn't want to be limited to only simply what I know. On the other hand, not knowing much beyond "Christian"...

Review: The God You Need to Know

Pneumatology is a subject I confess that I don't focus on as much, so I was intrigued by The God You Need to Know by Margaret Feinberg, particularly given its Old Testament perspective. In studying the intersection of faith and the arts during seminary and recounting how the Spirit was first given to Bezalel and Oholiab, I was delighted to discover an entire chapter devoted to the Artisan Spirit, making this book an enriching read. Many thanks to ICON Media Group  for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
