Review: Muskoka Miracle - Muskoka Shores #7

I love it when God uses a story to bless and encourage me right where I am. Muskoka Miracle, the seventh book in the Muskoka Shores series by Carolyn Miller, is a book that I undeniably needed to read in this season of my life. It releases today, and it is a book that not only grabs your heart, it won't leave your mind anytime soon, either.

Many thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Book Synopsis

Sarah Walton might now be living out her dreams with her gorgeous husband and writing and recording music and touring with a globally famous Christian music group, but time spent in Muskoka is a slice of paradise, the perfect escape from that crazy busy world. She has so much to be thankful for... except there's just one thing.

Dan Walton knows he is blessed, but can't stop a niggling desire for something to change. Is it wrong to want more? Or should he just let go of his secret wish—one he can't share with his wife?

When tragedy strikes, the lessons learned in Muskoka several years ago are put to the test again, as the struggle to trust God proves only too real, putting strain on a relationship already tested by busyness and health challenges. Then, when family circumstances lead to a separation on the opposite side of the world, the depth of their love for God and each other forces them to face the fire once more.

God can do miracles anywhere, but there's always been something special about Muskoka...

Book Thoughts

I’m at a loss to convey just how much this book means to me. As a result, I have to give Carolyn Miller much credit for writing a heartbreaking and gut-wrenching beautiful story that helps people in their struggles feel seen. I don’t want to spoil the book as its content is beyond powerful, but suffice it to say, Muskoka Miracle will leave an imprint on you as you read it. Getting to further witness Dan and Sarah Walton’s marriage in action is such a gift. You know that the author has done an exceptional job in writing their characters when you’re about to lift them up in prayer partway through reading the book and putting it down before realizing that they aren’t real people. There was so much I could relate to in how authentic the characters are, and I love that God is integral to every aspect of the difficult journey that the Waltons face.

The fact that each new release has become more and more raw means that Carolyn has become my go-to author for books that tackle the messiness of life in the most hopeful of ways. The title of this book is apt and is an encouragement to all Christians that we serve a God who hears our prayers and continues to perform miracles today. I can’t recall the last time I felt like I was right in the trenches with a family going through doubt, grief, and confusion while calling out to God. Every aspect of this book touched me and felt like a tangible scene happening before me, down to the way that couples can get into difficult conversations with each other. Thankfully, the heaviness of this book is countered by lovely banter and humour, making this book radiate joy in the midst of the storm clouds of life. If you are looking for a woman’s fiction book that leaves you with a greater desire to pray to and worship God while facing the unknown, I cannot recommend this book enough. This is a book that pulls you under and through the cleansing waters of God’s refining love, challenging you to have renewed eyes of faith.

Review: The Good Gift of Weakness

I am so glad that the author reached out to me about  The Good Gift of Weakness: God's Strength Made Perfect in the Story of Redemption  as it was exactly the book that I needed to read in this season of my life. Many thanks to Harvest House Publishers and Eric Schumacher  for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. Book Synopsis This overview of the theme of weakness in the Bible offers readers practical encouragement and hope as they learn to view their frailties as part of God’s plan and purpose for their lives. Our culture deifies strength―and sadly, the church does too. Who has the most successful ministry, the largest congregation, or the godliest family? Our misplaced faith in human strength is a false hope with no basis in Scripture. But a closer look throughout the Bible reveals the central role human frailty plays in the redemption story. From Genesis to Revelation, God’s power is made perfect when peo...
